Have had my Drill Doctor for a while now, has been invaluable at times.
Can honestly say I have saved big $$$$ on being able to simply re-sharpen my old drill rather than throwing them or spending hours on the bench grinder sharpening by hand. (Posted on 1/2/18)

I've tried for years to sharpen my drill bits by hand. I never could get the hang of it. I was tossing bits left and right in the trash after they dulled. I got tired of this and decided to find a drill sharpener.

I was dismayed at the cost of most machines or the complexity of the setup. I had heard of the Drill Doctor, but I was set off by some of the bad reviews. But finally broke down and decided to try it.

It has been the BEST investment in a dedicated tool I have every made!!!!

The ONE thing I can not stress the most about when you get a Drill Doctor is to READ the manual, and WATCH the videos. Especially if you get the 750X. There are enough settings for various geometries to somewhat overwhelm you at first. But when you get your head wrapped around everything, you can't go wrong.

Grab a big, beat up drill bit that you don't care about, and experiment with going from one extreme setting to the next and see how they compare with a test drill through something (a big bit allows you to easily see the differences). Keep a light, consistent, touch when in the actual sharpening process (rotating the bit from one flute to the next). After a couple times, you get the feel and you can hear when you are done.

I've taken some really cheap drill bits that do an 'OK' job of drilling straight from the package, to being excellent bits by dressing them with my Drill Doctor. Granted they are cheap and dull quickly, but I don't care, since I can clean them up quickly now with the Drill Doctor.

The ONE thing I would like to see from the Drill Doctor's, is a chuck or something that can handle smaller drill bits. I do a lot of work in miniature and would like to find a way to sharpen my smaller bits.

I am VERY HAPPY with my purchase, and have recommended a Drill Doctor to many people and they came back to tell me that they are very happy that they followed my suggestion (with the caveat of having to read the manual and watch the videos). (Posted on 11/8/17)
Questionable Review by Madderoftime

Operation: This is just process and function... First off when you sharpen a bit the "dust" or small shards of metal get thrown out of the split bit port. I understand the need to keep sparks from leaving the machine but the clear tray is all but useless since the waste goes right out the port.
Second the split port is very tight for the chuck. Thus it does not seat all the way. Putting the chuck in or pulling it out is inconsistent and can even ruin the edge of the bit if still running.
Third the split of the bit has to be the same as the drill doctor or it will struggle to cut it. You have to be careful to recognize backcut or cleared bits and split bits separately.
End product: What the bit acts like when used and finish.
The grind is not near the quality of a new bit. The grit is obviously much courser and the edge shows this. The cut is hotter than a new bit and will dull faster.
The split is very inaccurate, the bit won't walk as a split bit helps prevent this but it will chatter until the radius is reached and it can help stabilize the bit.
Conclusion: I would like to see a fix for the shavings being thrown out. Other than that, the unit is a value for what it should be for. Easily sharpen bits when you don't have any new ones. Keeps work going and does save some cost. You could use 2 of these that take the same chuck and have a finer grit in the second to more hone the edge if it was available. Overall if you are a paying company the is a threshold in what time is worth compared to what this saves. In many cases it may be less expensive to just use a new bit. (Posted on 10/28/17)
