Dissapointed compared to previous models Review by Cold Chisel

I own the model 750 and purchased the "improved" model 750X. The old saying if it's not broken don't fix it applies to this "improved" model. The original model is built in the USA and of quality material that just plain felt solid. I own the newer model for a few years now and have only used it 2 times. It has always been stored in a dry heated shop. I went to use it yesterday and the shaft froze up on me. I also went to adjust from 115 degrees to 135 and the slide wasn't very easy to use. The plastic was almost to wide and it took some time to fit into the slot allowing me to slide it. Another feature missing on the newer model is the ability to hold your drill bit into the mold on the housing which allowed me to determine which angle my drill bit is, either 115 or 135 degree. The original model is very quick and simple to use and has a "Solid and high quality" feel to it. I'm only assuming the 750X is made in China because it says nothing about any country in which it was made, unlike the 750.
I will try to find a model 750 to purchase before buying another 750X. My next move after that would be a purchase from a competitors model.
I hope this review is encouraging to the owners of this company that their original product is superior to the latest model and their "quality supervision department" missed a day of work when they sent this model to production.

Drill Doctor Response: Brad, we want you to have the same success with your 750X as you did with your 750. Give us a call or send us an email so we can remedy your issues. For the record, every Drill Doctor is designed, engineered and assembled by hand in Ashland, Oregon. We source as many parts as we can from American companies, but due to changing economical climates, some parts cannot be sourced domestically. We meet with all our vendors to assure our parts meet our high quality standards, and that they share the same dedication to creating a quality workplace for their employees that we do. I am a Machinist by trade (courtesy of The U.S. Navy) and have for many years sharpened bits from 1/16" to 4" by eye. That was what was expected by most job shops.
I am retired now and very close to 70. Unfortunately my eye sight and hand coordination is not what it used to be. All of my work now is at home. I had been thinking for a while about purchasing a Drill Doctor and finally 'threw up my hands' so to speak when I just could not find the touch any more. I got the Drill Doctor today and after 15 minutes, successfully sharpened 8 to 10 bits, including split points. It also gives me the flexibility to easily change the angle to my taste. I highly recommend this to anyone. Don't be to proud to take the necessary step! (Posted on 4/20/16)
